The ZAP Fitness Foundation is pleased to announce the addition of Tyler Pennel to its’ resident roster. Pennel, the 2012 NCAA Division II 10,000m Champion while at Western State University (CO), had a storied career in Gunnison finishing as the NCAA Runner-Up 5 times before winning the 2012 10,000m title.
Pennel did not debut at the 10,000m distance until this season (2012) and did so with a time of 28:23.54, the 7th fastest time in Division II History. He has also run 13:51 for 5,000m and was the NCAA XC Runner-Up in 2011, helping lead Western State to the NCAA Title.
“Tyler is one of our country’s top emerging young distance runners,” said ZAP Head Coach Pete Rea. “I fully expect him to make his presence known on the US scene in the coming years. We look forward to having him on the ZAP campus.
A native of Golden, CO, Pennel was also named the 2012 National Men’s Track Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He holds degrees in both History & Sociology.
“Joining the ZAP team is a great opportunity and set-up for athletes like me,” said Pennel. “I am looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish with the support of the ZAP Foundation and Reebok.”
