Third year ZAP athlete, Esther Erb, ran to her second personal best of the year October 7th at the Twin Cities Marathon. Erb's run of 2:36:24 was good enough to garner her a 7th place finish as well as take over a minute off her previous best run at the Olympic Marathon Trials in January. Esther methodically worked her way through the pack, crossing halfway in 1:17:34 before approaching the tougher uphill section at 20 miles. Erb continued to work her way through the field of men and women up and over the hills heading into downtown St. Paul. On a crisp morning that saw temperatures hovering around freezing at the start Erb turned up the heat over the final miles passing her final female competitor at 23 miles but still running down men all the way to the finish. Erb finished as the 4th American competitor and will take some time before looking ahead to her next big goal - the Boston Marathon in April.
Being held in conjunction with the Twin Cities marathon was the Men's US 10 Mile Championships where ZAP athletes Cameron Bean and Michael Crouch toed the line. Cameron and Mike, both with track backgrounds, had successful runs competing in the longest race of their lives. Mike and Cameron finished just 20 seconds apart in their 10 Mile tour from Minneapolis to St. Paul, posting times of 48:41 and 49:01 respectively. Mike will be in action next at the HCA 8k in Richmond, VA on November 10th. Cameron will be visiting New York City the week before where he will race the Dash to the Finish 5k the day before the NYC Marathon.
