Second year ZAP athlete, Alissa McKaig, shattered the ZAP 5k mark last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, CA. McKaig came into the race with a PR of 15:47, but that mark would survive less than 15 1/2 minutes after the gun went of Saturday night. McKaig finished in 8th place, in a race won by current American 5k record holder Molly Huddle. Her time of 15:28 chopped nearly 20 seconds off her personal best and 18 seconds off the ZAP record held my Ann McGranihan since 2003.
Also competing for ZAP in the 5k at Mt. SAC were Chris Clark and David Jankowski, both running season best 5k marks the week after their races in the Blue Shoes Mile at Furman. Clark, Jankowksi, and McKaig will be joined by Jesse Cherry and Cameron Bean at the Cardinal Invitational next weekend on the campus of Stanford University. Clark will race the 5k, Bean will compete in the steeplechase, while McKaig, Cherry, and Jankowski will all be testing their abilities over 10,000m. We are looking forward to seeing some more records fall next weekend!
