McKaig Named to World Championship Marathon Team
ZAP Resident Athlete Alissa McKaig was named today to the 2012 World Championship Team in the marathon. McKaig was named to the 5 woman squad based on her debut marathon 5th place performance (2:37.29) at the 2010 ING NYC Marathon which served as the USATF Championship. Joining her on the team are 2012 Olympic 10,000m runner Kara Goucher, 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials Champion Colleen De Reuck, 2:30 marathoner Tera Moody & Multiple time world championship team member Kathy Newberry. The race will take place in Daegu, South Korea on August 27th as part of the world Track & Field Championships.
The announcement comes on the heels of an outstanding last 3 months for the 25 year old McKaig. In that time she made her first World Championship XC Team and ran 3 personal track and field PRs - 2 at 5,000m (lowering her PR from 15:55 to 15:28) and one in the 10,000m (improving 1:34 from 33:48 to 32:14).
