The Atlanta Motor Speedway was home to The Richest 5k on the Planet last weekend, and David Jankowski was there to lay claim to the top prize of $6,000. Jankowski covered the 2-loop course around the Speedway in a swift 14:11, just edging out the Reuben Mwei by less than a second. Jankowski, in the midst of prepping for the Olympic Marathon Trials, showed great strength and finishig speed to take the Reebok sponsored event's inaugural title. It was a two man race for much of the race as Jankowski and Mwei were clear of the third place finisher by nearly 100m by the finish.
Competing on the women's side for ZAP was Alissa McKaig, who crossed the line in third place. Finishing just ahead of her was Janet Cherebon-Bawcom, who has laid claim to multiple US Road Championship titles in 2011. Alissa is also in the midst of training for the marathon and both athletes are looking forward to the final 6 weeks of preparation in Tallahassee, FL. The next time the athletes will race will be in a marathon paced half marathon in Jacksonville, FL on December 18th.
