ZAP Athletes Perform Well at Stanford & Georgia Tech

The last 2 weeks has seen ZAP athletes in action on both coasts. Allison Grace kicked off the month of May in fine fashion by finishing 2nd in the 10,000m at the Cardinal Invitational on the campus of Stanford University. Her time of 33:38 was her 3rd fastest ever. She returns to competition on 5/30 at the American Miler Series Meet in Indianapolis, IN. Grace will be contesting the 10k event at the USATF National Championships in Eugene, OR in June.

Victories and Personal Bests at Georgia Tech On 5/15

Team ZAP travelled to Atlanta, GA for the Georgia Tech Invitational. Highlighting the evening was ZAP rookie David Nightingale in the 1,500m. Closing well over the final 500 meters Nightingale finished in a time of 3:44.2, both a personal best and a USATF qualifying time. Following Nightingale ZAP steeplechaser Ryan Warrenburg ran his first race in almost an entire year winning the men's 3k steeple event after leaving the pack at the 1,200m mark. "Ryan has fought incredibly hard to get himself healthy," said ZAP Coach Pete Rea. "It was great to see him back out there." ZAP's Frank Tinney also ran his first race after a long injury lay off finishing 4th in the men's 5,000m event and Allison Grace stepped down to the 1,500m for some much needed speed work.

Summer ZAP Running Camp Update

June Women's Mini Camp Now Sold Out! Few Spots Remain for July Full Week Camps, August Marathon Mini-Camp and "Last Chance for Summer" Camp

ZAP Fitness has sold out the 2009 June women's mini camp (June 18-21) and now has only a handful of spots remaining for the July full week camps as well as the August Marathon Mini-Camp and September "Last Chance for Summer" Camp. ZAP recently announced American Record Holder and Multi-time Olympian Amy Rudolph as the guest speaker for the June women's camp. 4 time Boston Marathon Winner Bill Rodgers will be speaking at the July Crazy Racing Camp and running icon Dick Beardsley at the adult running vacation week later that month. Former World Marathon Record Holder Steve Jones will be speaking at the August Marathon Mini camp and Olympian Jan Merrill will again be speaking at the September Mini-Camp. Sign up now

ZAP Rookies Set 5,000m Bests at MT SAC Relays

On Friday evening 4/17, 3 of ZAP Fitness' first year athletes competed at the historic MT SAC Relays in Walnut, CA, and all 3 came away with lifetime bests in the 5,000m event. Starting the evening for ZAP was rookie Jess Minty. Rolling through the mile in 5:05 and 2 miles in 10:08, Minty held on for a time of 15:56.8, a personal best by 31 seconds. This is Minty's first track PR as a ZAP athlete. Next up for ZAP was David Nightingale who also scored a big PR with a 5k time of 13:42.8, 7 seconds quicker than his previous best of 13:49 from 2007. Nightingale has now run bests in 2009 at both the 3k and 5k distances. Finishing the evening was Michigan native and 1st year athlete Nate Peck in the Olympic Development 5,000m. Peck made it 3 for 3 for team ZAP with a personal best of 14:00.07. All 3 athletes will contest the Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University on May 2nd!

Grace Opens 2009 Track Season With 5,000m PR

On Friday 3/27 3rd year resident athlete Allison Grace kicked off the 2009 ZAP Fitness outdoor track campaign with a 5,000m personal best of 16:11.20 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, NC. Amidst torrential rains and a prerace tornado warning, Grace joined New Balance's Jen Donovan in a quick early tempo and held on for a 3 second best. Donovan won the race in 16:10. Grace was a 2008 Olympic Trials Finalist in the 10,000m. ZAP's Thomas Morgan also finished second in the men's invitational 5k race to open his 2009 season.

Busy College and Group Season in Store for ZAP

2009 is shaping up to be our busiest college and retreat season ever. We are excited to again be hosting Ohio State University, Florida State University, N.C. State University, Duke, Milligan College (TN), Virginia Tech and more than a dozen running clubs, corporate groups, triathlon training teams and Yoga retreats. Thanks to all and we look forward to seeing you this summer!
